When Tilly and her friends visit the Olympia Horse Show, she wins a backstage tour and meets Samson, a highly-strung stallion show jumper…

Instinctively Tilly undid the bolt that secured the door. She crept inside and reached her hand out. Slowly, the horse came to her. He leaned his nose towards her outstretched hand and began to explore it, nibbling and sniffing and getting used to her smell. His breath warmed her skin.
“That’s it, Samson. Good boy. That’s better. Take your time.”
Samson gave a small snort and lifted his head. His face, which had been ferocious, was now relaxed. It was as if he was entranced. Tilly watched as the muscle tension in his body completely disappeared.
