Red Admiral lifted his head and stood tall and proud, in the narrow shaft of sunlight. Then he started to nuzzle the horsehair bracelet again, almost chewing it off her wrist.

“Let me see your leg,” Tilly whispered.
She leaned down beside his injured foreleg which was bandaged. She took the bandage off and instinctively she ran her hand down the back of his tendon. Gradually, with her fingers, she began to massage the area from the knee down to the fetlock. As she did, Red Admiral lowered his head and stood still.
Suddenly Tilly had that strange feeling again, the same one she’d had with Magic Spirit, as if everything else had disappeared and only she and Red Admiral existed. They were lost in the moment and only aware of each other.
